Promotions
A promotion is a temporary discount on a rate plan. In Veridien a promotion is its own rate plan, derived from a base plan, that takes a percentage or a fixed amount off. It inherits the base plan's seasonal pricing and applies the discount on top, so a promotion is never priced by hand and never drifts from the plan it discounts.
Open Promotions from the property sidebar. Everything is one table: each promotion is a row, and any codes that unlock it sit in the same row.
A code unlocks a promotion, it does not discount
The discount lives in the promotion itself. A promo code only decides who can see and book that promotion. This is why a code never carries a percentage of its own, and why the same promotion can be public today and gated behind a code tomorrow without touching the price.
- On the Promotions screen, click New promotion.
- Choose the base plan it discounts. The promotion attaches to that plan's room type and inherits its seasonal pricing.
- Set the discount: a percentage off (for example 20%) or a fixed amount off per night (for example $60).
- Give it a public name and a short description. These are what a guest sees on the booking engine.
- Optionally set a minimum stay, a booking or stay window, and whether it requires prepayment.
- Save. The promotion appears as a row in the table.
Because a promotion is a derived plan, its price is always the base plan's current price minus the discount. If you change the base plan's rates or seasons, the promotion follows automatically.
- A public promotion is bookable by anyone once it is switched on for the booking engine.
- A code-gated promotion is hidden until a guest enters a matching promo code. It shows a Needs a code flag in the table until you add one.
To gate a promotion, add a code to its row. To make a gated promotion public again, remove its codes and switch off the code requirement.
Each promotion row carries its codes inline. Use Add code to create one, click a code chip to edit it, or hover it to delete. A code sets:
- Code: the string a guest types, stored and matched in upper case. It cannot be renamed once created, because bookings freeze the code they were made with. To change it, delete the code and make a new one.
- Valid from / to: an optional window during which the code works.
- Total redemptions: an optional cap on how many times the code can be used across all guests.
- Per guest: an optional cap per guest.
Failed codes look the same on purpose
A code that is wrong, expired, or fully redeemed returns the same neutral "not valid" message on the booking engine, so a guest cannot probe for real codes by guessing. The quote a code returns is advisory; the price is confirmed again when the booking is placed.
Each promotion has two switches:
- Booking engine: whether the promotion is offered on your own booking site.
- Channels: whether it is distributed to connected OTAs. This switch is disabled with a reason shown whenever the channel sync would drop the plan, so the control never claims a rate is live on a channel when it is not.
When a guest books a promotion, its nightly rates are the base plan's rates for those dates (including any seasonal interval) with the discount applied. The reservation total is the sum of those nights. As with all rate plans, a booking already placed keeps the price it was quoted, even if you later change or delete the promotion.
Gating a promotion but never adding a code. A promotion marked as requiring a code with no code attached can never be booked. The table flags this as Needs a code.
Discounting into the base plan. Do not try to build a discount by editing the base plan's price. Create a promotion instead, so the base plan keeps stating the real rate and the discount stays visible and trackable.
Forgetting the booking-engine switch. A promotion that is not switched on for the booking engine will not appear to guests, even if it is public and has a code.
